The giants within

“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV)

David stood boldly before Goliath, armed with nothing but a sling, a stone, and unshakable trust in God. The giant that terrified an entire army fell in moments because David’s heart was aligned with the Lord. Yet years later, the same David as a powerful king, fell not to a towering warrior but to a quiet, internal enemy: unrestrained desire.

Bathsheba did not appear with armor or threats. The battle was not fought in a valley but in David’s heart. The man who conquered giants was conquered by what he never killed inside himself.

Here is the truth: The enemies outside us are never as dangerous as the desires within us. Goliath mocked, roared, and strutted. Lust whispered. And it was the whisper David underestimated.

Our greatest battles may not be the loud crises, the obvious obstacles, or the external opposition. Our real giants are the ungodly desires, habits, and thought patterns we’ve allowed to live another day. What we refuse to confront will eventually confront us.

But there is hope: The same God who gave David victory over Goliath extends mercy to restore those who stumble. David repented, and God lifted him again. Victory is possible not just over the giants around us, but over the giants within us.
